Affordable housing

Marketing for the next 22 affordable rental apartments in Building E will begin soon. Sign up to the list of interested parties and stay informed.

A total of 100 affordable rental apartments are being built on the Papieri site, ensuring a balanced social mix within the neighborhood. The first 30 affordable rental apartments will be built in Building A during the first phase of construction. The next 22 affordable flats will follow in the third construction phase in House E, with occupancy starting in September 2026. These will be available to people on low incomes who want to live in the Papieri development.

Reduced-cost living

Affordable rental apartments are exclusively available to those on low incomes. See the fact sheet:

  • Maximum household income (CHF 48,000–104,000, depending on the size of the apartment)
  • Maximum household assets (net assets CHF 144,000), extra allowance for applicants with children and elderly dependents
  • Apartment size: Maximum number of rooms = number of applicants + 1.5 (e.g., a 4.5-room apartment requires at least 3 occupants)
  • Applicants already resident in Cham or the canton of Zug will receive priority
  • Compliance with the criteria will be checked at periodic intervals
  • The signed rental agreement will be used to clarify entitlement to an additional reduction from the canton (apply using form WFG 8.5). Future tenants will be provided with this form at the same time as the rental contract (see fact sheet).

Application Procedure

  • Apply for a desired apartment under Offers by submitting your tax return and a current extract from the debt enforcement register.
  • When allocating the apartments, priority is given first to applicants with a residence or connection to Cham, and then to residents of the canton of Zug.
  • The signed tenancy agreement serves to clarify any additional subsidy from the canton (application using form WFG 8.5, providing all necessary information). The form is provided to future tenants together with the tenancy agreement.

Living in building A

All of the rental apartments in building A are accessible from both Maschinengasse and Ringstrasse. The initial letting took place in 2022.
