Wood as a raw material and a building material

The paper mill needed large quantities of wood to manufacture its paper. Accordingly, the factory forecourt was filled with stacked wood. Today, wood is used as a building material.

Paper is made from wood, or more precisely from wood fibres. Here at Cham paper mill, the focus was entirely on producing paper from wood. This required large quantities of wood. Cham produced its own cellulose until 1963. This was given up for environmental reasons, but also because of favourable import options.

Today, wood is once again very much in demand on the Papieri site – as a versatile building material. Using wood also helps to increase living comfort and improve the carbon footprint.
