Obermühle mill

The pre-industrial pioneer

Obermühle mill was used to grind grain into flour for 450 years. It did so using the hydropower supplied by the river Lorze and hence indirectly laid the foundation for using the river to supply power to the slightly younger paper mill opposite.

The year 1815 is inscribed by the cellar entrance; at that time the property belonged to Leonz Suter.
The mill wheel, which used the water of the Lorze, was once mounted on the lower floor. (1964)
The Obermühle is currently being renovated by its owner and today lies opposite the new Lorzensteg footbridge.
