It’s all about the right mix!

This was the site of the factory building housing paper machines 3 and 4. This is also where the raw materials were prepared for paper manufacture. That is, the workers broke the materials down with special machines and mixed into pulp.

The Holländergebäude, which translates into “Dutch building”, has absolutely nothing to do with Dutch people. In fact, it is named after the machine used to break down the raw paper materials, which is called a “Hollander beater”. This machine shredded and mixed rag pulp or cellulose to produce paper pulp.

The Hollander beater was used in Cham from 1780 until 1980, after which modern refiners were used to perform the same work automatically.

In the past the Hollander beater ensured the right mix; today it is businesses and residents in the new loft studios on the ground floor and the unique loft apartments on the upper floors.
