It’s all about the right mix!

This was the site of the factory building housing paper machines 3 and 4. This is also where the raw materials were prepared for paper manufacture. That is, the workers broke the materials down with special machines and mixed into pulp.

The Holländergebäude, which translates into “Dutch building”, has absolutely nothing to do with Dutch people. In fact, it is named after the machine used to break down the raw paper materials, which is called a “Hollander beater”. This machine shredded and mixed rag pulp or cellulose to produce paper pulp. The Hollander beater was used in Cham from 1780 until 1980, after which modern refiners were used to perform the same work automatically.

The mixing tanks were housed on the first floor. (1913)

The Holländer building was formerly used for a variety of purposes and now houses businesses and residents in new studios on the ground floor and unique lofts on the upper floors.
