Obermühle mill

Obermühle mill

The pre-industrial pioneer

Obermühle mill was used to grind grain into flour for 450 years. It did so using the hydropower supplied by the river Lorze and hence indirectly laid the foundation for using the river to supply power to the slightly younger paper mill opposite.

The year 1815, when the building was owned by Leonz Suter, features on a plaque at the entrance to the basement.
The mill wheel, which used water from the Lorze, was once located in the basement. (1964)
The Obermühle mill is currently being renovated by the owner and is located opposite the new Lorzensteg.
